Atlantic Isles football club is a friendly club for playing football badly and then discussing just how badly over a drink afterwards. Atlantikoko Uharteak futbol talde bat izan, nazio-anitzeko, futbola jolasten gaizki club eleanitza da eta gero besterik eztabaidatzeko nola gaizki baino gehiago edan ondoren. Islas del Atlántico club de fútbol es un club amistoso para jugar al fútbol mal y luego discutir lo mal y tomar una copa después.

Mundialito 2012

Its that time of the year again! The mundialito 2012 kicks off at Sarriena on Sunday 10 June. AIFC play at 3pm against Senegal.

The Atlantic Isles Football Club

The Atlantic Isles football club was formed three years ago following “extra time” after the annual St Patrick´s day football match between England and Ireland. Sitting in the Wicklow arms, we decided to create a club to make friends and participate in the integration tournament organized by BBK every year.

Today the family of Atlantic Isles Football Club is formed by players, officials, and fans from not only the different countries that make up the United Kingdom and Ireland but also “natives” and Chileans!

The strong cultural relationship between Bilbao and the Atlantic Isles (a name signifying a geographical region that ignores any politics) has existed for many years, particularly in the field of football. Mr Pentland and the first footballers still cast an influence on the area. Outside of the game, the British “colony” remains strong, and the Irish-Basque association flourishes.

Many of the players of the Atlantic isles answered the call of Athletic in the centenary year to play against the Athletic veterans in honour of the game first played along the river in Lamiako

El mismo surgió en Bilbao hace tres años, producto de un “tercer tiempo” tras un partido amistoso de futbol disputado entre varios amigos británicos, irlandeses y autóctonos residentes en nuestra Villa. Amigos que llevaban jugando varios años y a los que les ocurrió la idea de crear un conjunto que les reuniera, con el objetivo de participar en el “Mundialito” para la integración organizado por la BBK, torneo anual, y cuya final se ha celebrado en varias ocasiones en San Mamés tal y como ustedes conocen.

A día de hoy la familia de Atlantic Isles Football Club se encuentra formada por distintas personas provenientes de Escocia, Gales, Inglaterra, Irlanda, Chile así como por jugadores, directivos y aficionados autóctonos.

Sabemos de la fuerte vinculación que ha existido y existe entre Bilbao y el mundo anglosajón, ya no solo en el ámbito socio – cultural y económico, sino por supuesto en lo futbolístico. En este apartado no creemos necesario profundizar demasiado, por conocida, en la notoria presencia que ha tenido la colonia británica a lo largo de la historia en el Athletic Club, destacando entre otros la figura de un hombre como Fred Pentland, en estos momentos homenajeado; así como relevante influencia que tuvo en la en la difusión del futbol en Bilbao, desde su origen en las campas de Lamiako.

Subrayar que precisamente durante el centenario del Athletic Club varios de los que ahora son nuestros jugadores o directivos fueron participes de aquel partido que les enfrento a veteranos del Athletic en honor al primero jugado en las campas de Lamiako entre bilbaínos y británicos.

Futbol talde hau orain dela hiru urte Bilbon sortu zen, britaniar, irlandar eta bertoko lagunen artean jokatu zen partidu baten ondoren. “Hirugarren zatian” eta “pinta” gehiegi edan ondoren, futbol talde bat sortzea bururatu zitzaigun, “Integraziorako Mundialito” futbol txapelketa jokatu asmoz. Jakingo duzuenez, futbol txapelketa hau BBK-k antolatzen du, eta urte batzuetako finala San Mames bertan jokatu da.

Gaur, Atlantic Isles Football Club taldea, Eskoziar, Galestar, Irlandar, Txiletar eta Euskal lagunek osatzen dugu, jokalari eta direktiba arloetan.

Ezaguna da bilbotar eta britaniarren arteko lotura berezia, orain eta iraganean, sozio-kultural eta futbol arloetan. Ez da beharrezkoa, historian zehar, britaniar lagunek Athletic-en izan dituzten eraginak errepikatzea, baina baten bat azpimarretzekotan, Mr Petland aipatuko genuke, denboraldi honetan bere oroimenean hainbat ekitaldi ikusi ahal izan dugun bezala.

Nabaritzekoa da, Athletic Club-en mendeurrenaren ospakizunetan, Lamiako landetan bilbotar eta britaniarren arteko lehen partidu famatu haren oroimenenan jokatu zen partidu bat, Athletic Club-eko jokalari ohiaz eta britaniarrez osatutako talde bien artean. Gaur Atlantic Isles Football Club osatzen dugun lagun batzuk, partidu horretan egon ziren, jokalariak zelaian eta direktiba osatzen dutenak armailetan.
